Noob and his GF(beginner help needed)
So I and my gf just bought Nightfall and need a little guidance.
We both play wow and are not new to MMO's, but we really want a break from all this community stuff and just want to play with just the two of us. So I got a couple of questions: 1. Which classes complement each other? I did a bit of research and Dervish/warrior sounds like something I want to do, what class would go good with that? Do you even really need to play classes that complement each other to succeed? 2. Can the two of us beat this game? Or henchmen arent enough? Any other tips for newbs would be appretiated. THanks |

A Dervish and a Monk would compliment each other in my opinion, but any two classes should do well enough together considering your experience playing together.
If you play together all of the time, you'll both have heroes to fill the rest of the slots. If you're particularly good at the game you'll be able to do most, if not all of the game without outside help. |

1. To compliment a dervish bring a class that does damage. Damage + damage = more damage. The faster you kill things the better. Another choice would be a monk so you could stay alive, but I find heroes work fine in most cases.
2. I've beaten all 3 games with a friend and 6 heroes or just me with heroes/hench. You can do the same. |

My husband and I usually try to pair a caster with a non-caster. For instance, we're playing Prophecies with a Ranger/Mesmer, Nightfall with a Ranger/Ele, and Factions with Ele/Warrior. As just some ideas of what we've done. However, heroes fill out everything just fine, so your absolute best bet is play what you like to play.

1. It really doesn't matter, she can pick any class she wants since you dont ""really need to play classes that complement each other to succeed" in GW. Well thats just my expirence and opinon.Btw. how come you get to pick a class and not her!?:P
2. and yes, with Heros ( which you get in NF) and henchs. you can beat whole game alone. |

my husband and I RARELY play with anyone other than us (and the heroes and henchies)....its very feasible, and quite a lot of fun as well.
If you want to play melee, you lady friend could play any of the caster classes---since you are thinking dervish I am thinking you will be playing nightfall and will then be getting heroes to complement what ever area you are missing out in....so she can play whatever she wishes (paragons while a melee class also can heal and other such things so dont rule them out either). Have a great time playing together and welcome!

Since you are in nightfall take some extra time to learn about all of the classes if you can and get some good builds on your heroes. Whatever classes you are playing heroes are very good at filling in the gaps. Every character gets a number of free 'hero skill points' which give free skills for both yourself and heroes, and if you want a specific skill for a hero you can pvp and spend 1k faction to unlock it for them. In fact, 99% of the time well set up heroes will be better then the people you will find in outposts. But they have to be set up well, if you set them up bad they will perform bad.

1. Ultimately, with 8 man parties, you can both play whatever class you like and fill in the rest of the slots with your heroes. It's good to have at least one human play melee, cause if you ever need to go trinity, you'll need someone who can control aggro and knows how to corner block etc. Heroe's aren't so good at that type of positioning. Having a human healer of some sort is also really useful, cause when you get quests where you have to protect and keep some NPC alive, having a human who knows to prot and heal the NPC will make things much easier.
Also, go a class you can both stand to play. You may want to go melee, and if she goes monk she can heal and you can do a lot of stuff just the two of you, no heroes or henchies. But I'd say that monking is almost like a life style choice. Some people enjoy monking and keeping things alive, others can't stand it and get bored very easily, just making red bars go up. 2. Yes, two people with 6 heroes can easily beat all three campaigns and the expansion. With two people and 6 heroes you'll also be able to do the elite areas later as well, once you get some experience. Anyway, welcome to Guild Wars. |

It doesn't matter what classes the both of you play as long as your team brings a decent balance of healing / protection / utility / damage then your fine in pve.
Just be sure that you and your GF both have 3 heroes. Always use the hero's instead of henchies. Henchmen can only be controlled as a group and to say that their builds suck would be an understatement. |

Were I to play with two humans I would try and make on melee and the other caster - that way you have both areas of the battlefield (front and back line) covered with something with a real brain. It doesn't really matter which ones - though if you wanted *me* to say I would say a warrior and a paragon simply because I think they are the easiest two classes to play in their respective roles. However neither of the two are remotely the classes I like to play (Dervish, Necro, and Ele) and in the end there is little difference as far as ability to complete the game is concerned. Quote:

Hey,
The best advice came from ElinoraNeSangre so far ... play what you like. You will get all (heroes) that you two need to 'finish' the game. However, I'll advice to go for Dervish and Paragon if Nightfall is the only Guild Wars campaign you own. This is for the reason that both classes were introduced to the game in this campaign and you will have almost all the skills at your disposal. Other classes have skills that you'll only can get if you own another campaign. Which can be frustrating. Other classes have on the flip side more potential to grow with you if you plan to purchase the other campaigns as well in the near future ... choices choices ... But the beauty of Guild Wars is that it does not need as much grind as WoW and many people have 6-8 max level characters ... so just get out there and test what you like best. And last but not least... A Warm welcome to Guild Wars. Have fun. |

For dervish, there are many bad examples in this topic. (no, d/n for barbs is a really bad idea).
D/W is okay, you get acces to interupts like distracting blow, and you could use rush as a free speedboost (since you do not require adrenaline anyway). D/E is quite good if you use it with conjure *element*, say conjure flame and a fiery scythe. D/Mo could be usefull, just watch that you dont end up taking anything to heal other players or yourself too much. You can think of mending touch, though. D/A gives you acces to a teleport...and thats about it. D/Me might be usefull for hex breaker. |
